What You Can Expect from the Examination

When talking to your doctor about your concerns, you will want to be as open and honest with them as possible. Voicing your symptoms, any substances or medications you may be taking, and your medical history can help your doctor figure out where to begin in your examination. As your doctor develops a better understanding about your symptoms, they may run some tests to make sure you are not experiencing a physical health condition that is causing you to feel anxious.

After your doctor examines your physical health, they will probably then give you a self-assessment questionnaire to fill out. These questionnaires will examine your thoughts, emotions, and current life situation. Every answer can help your doctor develop a deeper understanding about what is going on with you, so filling the questionnaire out as accurately as possible will be important to receiving an accurate diagnosis.

As we learned in Module 2, there are many different forms anxiety can take. The more accurate information your doctor has about your symptoms, the more accurately they will give you a diagnosis, granting you and them a better chance at finding the treatments that will get you feeling better.
