The Grieving Process

The Grieving Process

The grieving process can look different for everyone. Because of this, there is no one size fits all timetable or grieving process as one begins their journey to healing. Grief is a consequence of loss, and each loss can leave a different shaped mark on every one of us.

Some people may experience intense emotions as they face the grieving process, while others may feel little to nothing at all. Some people may experience their grief over months or years, while others may find healing within days or weeks. No matter what a person’s grieving process looks like, there is no right or wrong way of grieving.

Despite the fact that we all grieve, this does not mean that the reasons we grieve, or our access to mourning is shared.  For many people of color, the fear, exhaustion and constant grief that all come from regularly dealing with various forms of discrimination are compounded when additional trauma occurs.
