How Does Grief Feel

Grief is characterized as a complicated whirlwind of emotions. Therefore, there is no one feeling a person may experience, as the grieving process can have many different implications for many different people. Grief is often described as feeling like an emotional rollercoaster. There will be days in which a person can feel normal, but there will also be days in which they will find themselves struggling with low moods and difficult emotions. There are a wide variety of emotions one may experience when dealing with grief, including:

  • Anger
  • Stress
  • Shock
  • Denial
  • Sadness
  • Depression
  • Yearning
  • Numbness
  • Guilt

There is no right or wrong way to feel when grieving. The most important thing a person can do for themselves as they navigate the grieving process is to allow themselves to feel whatever they need to.
