Actively Seeking Happiness

Depression can keep one from the activities that once brought them joy. Studies have suggested that participation in enjoyable leisurely activities can help improve health and wellbeing. 

A person experiencing depression may find themselves feeling a bit happier and healthier by: 

  • Joining a class to learn a new hobby 
  • Participating in a book club 
  • Getting back into hobbies they enjoyed before they began experiencing symptoms of depression. 
  • Getting enough sleep 
  • Praying 
  • Meditating 
  • Stepping away from experienced that leave you feeling stressed or unhappy 
  • Practicing relaxation techniques, such as meditation and breathing exercises 
  • Joining a sports team 
  • Playing with a pet or volunteering with animals
  • Spending time with people whose company you enjoy 
  • Doing something spontaneous for the fun of it
