Course summary

When we lose something that is important to us, no matter what it is, we will likely experience grief in some shape or form. In some cases, grief can feel devastating and all-encompassing. As a person navigates their way through the grieving process, they may find that the emotions associated with grief impact every part of their life, including their relationships, mental and physical health, job, and overall ability to enjoy their day-to-day routines. In this module, we will be discussing:

  • our overall course objective 
  • generally defining grief 
  • ways we can support others experiencing grief 
  • what the grieving process can look like 
  • the signs that one should reach out to their doctor regarding the emotions they are experiencing throughout the grieving process

 

Course Objectives

Grief is associated with the emotions and thoughts one experiences as they cope with loss. It doesn’t matter what a person loses; if it is significant to them, they will likely experience some form of grief. In this course, we will be taking a closer look at grief, covering areas of the topic like:  

  • What is grief
  • What grief can feel like
  • The physical and emotional symptoms associated with grief
  • The grieving process
  • The causes, triggers, and risk factors behind grief
  • The long-term effects of grief
  • Healthy coping mechanisms one can turn to when dealing with grief
